On the 15th April 1452 one of the greatest minds of the Renaissance era was born, Da Vinci. He was born in Anchiano, Tuscany, near to the town Vinci, thus then provided his surname, Da Vinci; he was born to Ser Pierro da Vinci who was a legal specialist and to Caterina who was his peasant mother. Da Vinci didn't have any siblings and was an only child; however his parents were never married so with other partners Da Vinci had a total of seventeen half-siblings. When Da Vinci was very young his mother Caterina married someone also and began a new family. Around the age of five, he began living on the estate which belonged to
his father's family, Ser Pierro. Even though Da Vinci had no contact with his mother he still had his uncle who was willing to look after him though.

Early career
Da Vinci didn't receive any formal education beyond basic Reading, Writing and Mathematics. However, his father appreciated his artistic ability and apprenticed him to the noted sculptor and painter Andrea Del Verrocchio, of Florence. Then for about a decade he refined his painting and sculpting techniques and trained in mechanical arts. Later on when Da Vinci was only 20, the Painters' guild of Florence offered Da Vinci membership, however he remained with Verrocchio until he became an independent master in 1478. Da Vinci didn't just focus on his art though he also took an interest into science and inventing from a young age.
